What are Geosynthetic Products ?

Geosynthetic products are man-made materials used in contact with soil, rock, or earth structures to improve their performance. They are mostly made from polymer-based materials (like polypropylene, polyethylene) and serve various functions such as separation, filtration, drainage, reinforcement, and protection in civil, geotechnical, environmental, and hydraulic engineering applications.

Main functions of Geosynthetic Products:

  • Separation – Prevent mixing of two different soil layers (e.g., road base and subgrade).
  • Filtration – Allow water to pass while retaining soil particles.
  • Drainage – Collect and channel water or gases within the plane of the material.
  • Reinforcement – Provide tensile strength to soil structures (e.g., walls, slopes).
  • Containment – Prevent migration of fluids or gases (e.g., liners in landfills).
  • Protection – Cushion or shield other layers (e.g., geomembranes or insulation).
  • Confinement – Transforms the loose soil into a semi-rigid, composite layer with higher strength and stiffness.
